2012/13: 113 The possibilities for efficient commuting and highway 97
by Fredrik Lundh Sammeli (S)*
to the Councelor Catharina Elmsäter-Svärd (M)*
In Norrbotten, as in other parts of the country that is characterized by long distances, the car is a necessity to make life work. Cars are an important tool in commuting. In a time of high unemployment, the car is a necessity to increase labor mobility and facilitate more people to get jobs. Several roads in Norrbotten is in great need of renovation to meet the commuting and traffic safety.
When we talk about relations between the northern cities, the train is an alternative to car and bus. When North Bothnia Line is completed halved travel times between coastal cities in the north. It will facilitate commuting and business exchange. From all the communities along Norrbotten will also reach any of the universities in Luleå and Umeå in 45 minutes. Norrland coast is the area of greatest regional expansion potential in the country, i. e. the area of the country where the greatest impact can be achieved by linking towns together in a better way.
Highway 97 between Luleå and Boden is one example, and has long been one of the country's most dangerous stretches of road. While the road is one of the most important results in Norrbotten in the east-west direction and is of great importance for regional development. It is an important link between the towns in the area Fyrkanten (Luleå, Boden, Älvsbyn, Piteå) and the average distance traveled at between Luleå and Boden of approximately 8000 vehicles per day.
A large amount of commuters use the road daily, and the road is also a very important serviceway because it is the road to the regional hospital in Sunderbyn. Therefore, it has long been set mode to improve road safety. It has for many years also been a regional interest in bringing cities Luleå and Boden closer together.
Extensive roadworks for safer traffic during the last ten years carried on routes Vanhankaupunginlahti-Sunderbyn and Sävast-Boden using municipal advance payment.
But to this important link between the cities in the region to have increased road safety and accessibility in its entirety is also needed on the last stretch between South Sunderbyn and Sävast secured.
My question to the Minister is:
What makes the Government to improve communications for commuting in Northern Sweden?
As to the Government to take measures to accelerate the completion of Highway 97 for improved road safety and mobility between cities Luleå and Boden?
